The American Airlines Stewardess College
The American Airlines Stewardess College was constructed by American Airlines in 1957 as the world's first college dedicated to training women how to become stewardesses. The Stewardess College located near DFW Airport was situated on 22 acres and provided classrooms, dorms, a beauty salon, tennis courts, a pool, and cabin simulators. The college has left a beloved, lasting impression on each stewardess who attended the school and walked down the iconic "graduation staircase" to receive her wings.
For the Stewardess College, IES was tasked by American Airlines to prepare Historic American Building Survey equivalent photo documentation of the college. As part of the project, we took high resolution, archival quality photographs of the character defining features of the interior and exterior of the building complex. Additionally, we also created an indexed photo log to HABS standards that will be utilized by American Airlines for future preservation and planning for a designated museum space.
