The single greatest incentive for preservation are Historic Tax Credits. Historic Tax Credits are available at both the State and Federal level. In Texas, a qualified structure can be eligible for up 25% in State and an additional 20% in Federal Historic Tax Credits.
Properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places or eligible for listing (Federal Historic Tax Credit), or are listed as Texas Historic Landmarks or Texas State Antiquities Landmark (State Historic Tax Credit) have the potential to utilize the Historic Tax Credits to make renovations on the structure including updating the HVAC system, repairing windows, and other updates that preserve the integrity and expand the longevity of the structure.
